What we believe

We founded UG-Tools 2020 out of a conviction: True innovation knows no compromise. If you want to create real progress, you have to consistently question the status quo and persist - and not forget to enjoy your work.

It is out of this passion that we have developed 3DTi knives.
The most uncompromising knife in the world: these combine extremely low weight with full-tang stability.

Who we are

We are Philipp Utsch & Jan Gierse, knife-crazy and founders of the future manufactory UG-Tools from Sundern. Philipp has been a professional knifemaker for over 10 years and has made over 1000 knives in the field of hunting and kitchen knives.
Jan studied mechanical engineering in the field of design and development. Since 2017, he has been doing his PhD in the field of selective laser melting. Together we bring experience and state-of-the-art technology to our products.

We do not do things by halves. Since our founding, we have invested every spare minute and all our passion into our work, as we want to get the absolute best out of our products (at this point a big sorry to family & friends who still stick by us). Because we don't do things by halves, the development of our first product took twice as long as expected: there was always something to test, improve and experiment with. We invested a month in choosing the right knife steel alone. Some people would say "that's completely excessive". And maybe they're right. But that's how we are. Nevertheless, we never lost the joy in our work and are all the more proud to have reached the first big milestone: Bringing the first 3DTi knives to the market.

About "our" material titanium

Why we choose titanium for our products is easy to explain: With a density of only 4.4 g/cm³, it weighs just over half that of steel, yet it achieves approximately the strength of a high-strength screw (12.9) that some may be familiar with. In addition to its low weight and high strength, it is extremely corrosion-resistant, biocompatible (implant quality) and can be coloured (type I) or dark anodised (type II). Only through the design freedom of selective laser melting with the outstanding properties of titanium we produce the most uncompromising knives in the world.
